I don’t know about you, but the Luna Loungewear has quickly become my favorite sleepwear pattern.
Read on to see how I changed the Luna Loungewear into a more winter friendly sleepwear set.
It’s comfortable, quick to sew, and makes me feel relatively put together, even when I’ve just gotten out of bed. So naturally I was a little bummed when I first felt that nip in the air that is a surefire signal that fall is on its way. I reluctantly packed away my summer clothes, and kissed my Luna sleepwear sets goodbye until spring.
After a few days of wearing leggings and old t-shirts to bed, though, I knew I needed to hack the Luna set for fall and winter sleepwear. Luckily it’s an incredibly easy hack, and there are any number of awesome LN tops to pair with the Luna pants for the perfect fall/winter PJ set!
My hack for these sleepwear sets was very simple —
I simply lengthened the capris from the Luna Loungewear to get the inseam length that I wanted. That’s it! Everything else was exactly according to the pattern. How’s that for an easy sleepwear hack?
For my unique body, I added 12″ of length to the size M Luna Loungewear capris for a 30″ inseam plus a 1″ hem allowance. That is the perfect length for me!
And what sleepwear set would be complete without a coordinating top? Tami has several great options in the Love Notions pattern line that coordinate nicely with the Luna pants. The Laundry Day Tee, Hip Hop Tank with the sleeve option, Tidal top with sleeves , Sloane Sweater and Tabitha top all pair nicely with these PJ pants.
But when I think PJ top, I want something comfortable and easy to put together, so it was a no-brainer for me to choose my personal favorite — the La Bella Donna.
For these LBDs, I made a few minor modifications to make them a little more pajama-esque for me. First, I shortened the hem by 3 inches so that they hit at my high hip. I find that even the shirt length LBD is a little long on me, but luckily shortening is an easy mod.
Second, I didn’t want long sleeves, but I also didn’t want cap sleeves. So I cut these tops with the extended shoulder meant for the 3/4 or long sleeves, and then left off the cuff. The result — ideal short sleeves! If you prefer 3/4-length or long sleeves for your fall/winter PJs, simply use the included pattern pieces.
Finally, I modified the neckline a bit. LBD is drafted for a hood or cowl, so the neckline is a little higher than a basic tee. I took my favorite t-shirt pattern, laid it over top the front piece and traced the neckline. You can easily do the same with any pattern that has a neckline you like (the Hip Hop Tank — has a great neckline), or just eyeball a deeper scoop. Finally, I finished it with a band rather than turning under and stitching.
And that’s it! Simple shapes, easy hacks and fast sewing. All the ingredients for a new winter sleepwear wardrobe!
Hello, I’m Nadine from Princesse et Trésors and I’m so excited to be part of the Love Notions Spectacular week as a guest blogger.
OMG Katie did such a great job on her version of the Luna. She raised the bar for me!
Last week, I had the chance to get some boy sewing done! Usually boys’ clothes are kind of boring and they tend to get overlooked beside all the cute girly things. This is not the case with my most used Love Notions Pattern the Moto Maxx set.
I’m not kidding, I’ve used this pattern about a dozens of times. I have it printed in 4 different sizes!
The Moto Maxx set is so versatile, I used it for PJs, fleece pants, tee-shirts, summer shorts and Halloween costumes. The pattern is full of awesome details that really make your outfit standout.
Personally, I really love this pattern for its slim-fit which makes it the perfect choice for sleepwear and playing around. Yes sleeping, I love to use the Moto Maxx for sleepwear. While this post is a sleepwear hack, it is not really hacking it is more about choosing the right options!
For the Super Heroes PJ top, I selected the short sleeve option and completed the rest of the shirt as designed with the contrasting shoulder yoke.
Because I like challenges, I decided to go ahead with a real pattern hack for endless sleepwear possibilities.
I modified the pants pattern to remove the side seams to keep the design of the fabric and get a short version of the pants.
Now what you need to know to hack your Moto Maxx.
The trick is to overlap by ¾ inch both the front and the back pants pattern pieces at the side seam. The ¾ inch is important since you need to remove the seam allowance. If you want to make a short style, just measure you model and cut your fabric the length desired (don’t forget the hem!).
