I learned the sewing basics at 14 at the the local community center and got my first sewing machine from my mom at 16 when I took textile classes in college. Started again in my 30's when I got kids and started sewing clothes for them. I'm now in my 50's and the last 5 years I've been enjoying sewing garments for myself!
