The Ballad Blouse pattern is easier to sew than it appears. All the pieces fit together exactly. The blouse is very comfortable and flattering when finished. The V neck opening is not too low so it’s not revealing. I made the puffed sleeve version and did find I had to take in the bottom circumference of the sleeve as it seemed a little wide on me, but that could be a personal preference. Overall a very cute top.

  2. lemdas (verified owner)

I love this top! It is so much fun to make–don’t be intimidated by the shirring, it’s really easy. So far I’ve made 2; both with the flutter sleeve option. I’m planning to make the bishop sleeve next. Get it you won’t be sorry!

  3. Brianne (verified owner)

This was a lot easier of a sew than I thought it was going to be. The fit on this top is great and it’s beautiful on. I’ve made the flutter sleeve option. Can’t wait to make my next one!

  4. dmschindlbeck (verified owner)

I love this blouse! I made mine from a rayon challis. It has such beautiful drape! I was a bit intimidated by this pattern but I took my time and it turned out beautifully. I can’t wait to make another version. And there are so many versions!

  5. FrenchieMom (verified owner)

This sounded so hard until the video showed the way. I’m making my first from cotton lawn with the bishop sleeve and can’t believe I’m actually making something this beautiful. Can’t wait to make this in a rayon challis!

  6. Shirley Jarrett (verified owner)

I just bought this pattern in the sale & whipped it up in an evening in a cotton jersey, another winner! Love it!

  7. Sue Crook (verified owner)

This pattern fits so well. The finished product is just perfect made in a rayon challis. I feel good when I wear it.

  8. Kim Field (verified owner)

This is my favorite button down top pattern. It’s dressy enough to look nice at work, but comfortable enough that I wear it all day.

  9. Krystal Kerr (verified owner)

This pattern is fabulous! The directions are great and so easy to follow! The video on your YouTube channel was super helpful to learn shirring as well

  10. jeri59834 (verified owner)

I’ve made this in a crinkle rayon and not my favorite fabric. Love this pattern though! Can’t wait to make it in my newest Liberty fabric. Such a nice, comfortable blouse.

  11. Kim*** (verified owner)

This is a beautiful top and my friend was stunned when I said I made it! While I am a confident beginner, I thought this might be a step up for me – but as always with LN patterns, the instructions are superb. And so many options! 🙂

  12. susiethebeau10 (verified owner)

Love your patterns. Especially this one. This has got me back into sewing after many many years. So easy to follow, print and make! 5 stars all the way around

  13. Vicki Mullis (verified owner)

I made a sleeveless with eyelet that I absolutely love. My friend loved it so much she made me make her one. She says it is her favorite top!! Great pattern!!

  14. odyjimg (verified owner)

I have made the Ballad four times!! The fit is great, and love it in very flowing fabrics. It is in my list of makes this summer.

  15. Kristi Craft (verified owner)

Love my Ballad blouse. I learned how to make shirring for my version. It is well drafted and didn’t have to make many pattern adjustments. It is a very flattering style with the curved hem. I definitely recommend it.

  16. Marie Kennedy (verified owner)

Love this top, so different with the smocking detail. Will make more for sure!

  17. Kristi (verified owner)

Definitely one of my favorite LN patterns! So far, I’ve made a sleeveless and flutter sleeve. Looking forward to making more!

  18. deblabounty (verified owner)

I’m so happy with the Ballad blouse I made! It was easy to figure out the right size using the sizing chart, and everything came together easily. The French seams instructions resulted in a lovely inside finish, which I love. Although the fabric I chose resulted in a dressy look. I’ve paired it with jeans and casual linen pants and I feel so pretty when I wear it. Highly recommend this pattern!

I searched the web for a blouse like this. I found a free one with no instructions and realized I needed more. Ballad was it. Great instructions and not hard to put together. Just pay attention to the instructions and you’ll do fine. I made a bishop sleeve version out of linen and it is great. The one thing I would do differently is make a regular cuffed shirt sleeve.

This is a cute pattern and is fairly easy. The Ballad was the first Love Notions pattern I tried. Now that I’ve figured out the adjustments I need to make, I am eager to get back to this one to perfect the fit for me.

I love this pattern. This was my first LN pattern and have made 3 so far. Love the sleeves with the ties and find the fit very flattering. Used FBA and very pleased and comfortable with end results.

  22. Sheila Bennett (verified owner)

This is a lovely pattern, only made it up once but am very pleased with the result. The design of the facing gives a very professional finish.

The Ballad blouse is a very easy sew and a very nice fit. I did no alterations and made a straight size large with the full bust option. It looks good tucked in and left loose. I love that the neck opening is wide enough that all I have to do is slip it over my head. I think for my 3rd Ballad I might sew the front placket down and just put decorative buttons on top.

  25. rlcveysey (verified owner)

Love this blouse! I’ve made two so far and will definitely make more. I did the V-neck with the puffed sleeve, one in cotton and one in a linen/rayon blend. They fit great with no adjustments. Just blended between sizes according to my measurements and results were perfect.

I love the Ballard Blouse! The instructions are clear. The design is super fun and not difficult. I was afraid to try the shirring but it was quite easy. I love when I expand my knowledge base! I will be making many more of these!

  28. Micola Pot (verified owner)

I have so much love for this pattern. The options make it possible to make it over and over and have very different blouses at the end of the day. The flutter sleeves are so flattering and easy to do.

  29. Robin Yuen (verified owner)

I have made this several times and love the different options. I have made both the shirred yoke and gathered yoke with different sleeves.

  30. Sue (verified owner)

Lovely pattern. The shirting if you choose to make that version is well explained. As usual with Love Notions there are style options. Excellent value for money. Stylish blouse, great fit, great instructions.

  31. verabering (verified owner)

I used this pattern for a strike that I was sewing. The instructions were so clear and easy to understand and the top is one of my favourites to wear, comfortable and well made! Definitely plan to make several more of these.

  32. Madelaine Audibert (verified owner)

The Ballad Blouse was a challenge for me as I am still a beginner. But with the instructions and the Love Notions YouTube video it was great to put together. I wish I made my toile from a better fabric. But the real version turned out great. I made my first one with shirring which was supper fun to do. Don’t feel intimidated by this pattern just follow the steps and you will be fine. There is a lot of support videos on YouTube to help you along the way. Thank you LOVE NOTIONS for your beautiful patterns that fits great and actually comes out like the picture.

  33. mindyclagett (verified owner)

I absolutely love the Ballad blouse! The fit is so comfortable. I sewed it in a soft, cotton lawn, and it feels so to good to wear. It was my first experience with shirring, and it came out so well, I’m excited to apply that to other patterns in my line-up, like the Tempo sundress. All LN pattern tutorials are so clear and easy to follow. I will definitely make this blouse again.

  34. Jessica Neuwerth (verified owner)

One of my favorite patterns ever, hands down. Perfect piece for work or casual wear. The v-neck is flattering and not too low, and the placket is easy but looks polished. I’ve made several different sleeve options, which all turned out well. I’ve made this at least five times, and I’ll be making more.

  35. kimkooienga (verified owner)

This blouse is so comfortable. I made alterations to the yoke pattern piece for my rounded upper back and “protruding” shoulder blades and also raised the v-neckline. The only reason I gave a 4-star instead of 5-star, is that the instructions don’t mention anything about keeping the gathers out of the placket area on the front gathered view. I didn’t do that in my first test/muslin and almost gave up on the pattern entirely! But once I realized I could just keep that section of the shoulder seam “flat”, I loved the pattern 🙂
